I think the video speaks for itself. The Plitvice Lakes is a World Heritage Site located in the Lika region of Croatia.

30 Day Meme – Day Five [My Favorite Quote]

•February 5, 2010 • 1 Comment

I actually have two, the first is from Ralph Waldo Emerson:

Character is higher than intellect… A great soul will be strong to live, as well as to think.

If you’ve known me for a LONG time you’ll understand why I chose this.

The second comes from Mahatma Gandhi:

Freedom is not worth having if it does not connote freedom to err. It passes my comprehension how human beings, be they ever so experienced and able, can delight in depriving other human beings of that precious right.

True indeed.

BlackBerry OS ported to a Nokia XM5700…

•February 5, 2010 • Leave a Comment

…why is the question. Someone from the Maxpda forums unleashed this picture and video showing a Nokia XpressMusic 5700 running OS 4.6.0.305 for the Pearl Flip 8220.. but real or fake? Either way I’m shocked and semi disgusted, but it’s still cool to see that it’s possible (Blackberry users seem to be much more skeptical, though every other smartphone OS has had some level of hacking/porting in the past). Now if S60 was running on a Blackberry…

30 Day Meme – Day Four [My Favorite Book]

The Odyssey by Homer. While it is a poem, it stretched my imagination to the limits as a child… it also helped my love for ancient Greek and Roman mythology to grow.

Today is World Cancer Day and this year’s focus is on cancer prevention. A recent statement by the International Union Against Cancer states that 40% of cancers could be prevented. With that in mind, staff made commitments to begin and improve upon healthy behaviors. The video below highlights some of those commitments.

Remake or reboot? Doesn’t really matter to me haha. Karate Kid will be in theaters June 11, 2010.

As a point of reference it’s a good excuse to post the trailers to the original two films, which were among my favorite movies growing up.

My Favorite S60 links…

While I’m a die hard Blackberry user these days, my love for Symbian and the S60 smartphone platform remains my favorite to work with. While it’s not currently activated for use my Nokia N82 still gets much use on a day to day basis and I love that I’ve been able to hack it with relatively no problem. As I wrote up the Blackberry post I started to think back on my favorite S60 apps, even as I contemplate a move to Maemo in the near future. The best part? Most of these apps can be installed on either the onboard memory or to the memory card:

Mobbler [mobile scrobbler for S60 3rd and 5th ed. phones, constantly being updated]
Skyfire [as much as I love Bolt, this is the BEST mobile browser currently in existence. Plays flash files too!]
Google Maps [when combined with Nokia’s AGPS, it’s impossible to get lost]
Fring [for IM, SIP, Facebook and Last.fm on the go, including Skype vid calling if you have the Nokia 5800, N97, N97 mini, X6, N95, N95 8 GB or N82]
Opera Mini [nice alternative to the native browser and Skyfire]
Gmail [integrate Gmail with Nokia’s built in messaging functions]
Ovi Maps [exclusive to Nokia’s Symbian phones, you can enjoy turn by turn navigation globally, for free]
Free-iSMS [adds threaded SMS to S60, but the app has to be signed]
Gravity [the best Twitter client for S60, also supports Laconica & Ping.fm; it costs $9.95 but it’s highly recommended]

30 Day Meme – Day Three [My Favorite Television Program]

•February 3, 2010 • 1 Comment

That’s an easy one; House, M.D. – this show helped me decide on my career path funny enough. Growing up in an environment where I spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals (because of a family member, not myself) and doing medical research out of boredom, it started to grow on me. Then this show pops up, and I almost immediately recognize some of the diseases and symptoms and possible causes of these rare but very real illnesses. It’s always crazy when art imitates life so closely.

Nokia N900 Running Mac OS X 10.3

Toni Nikkanen recently found a way to install Mac OS X 10.3 on the Nokia N900, which is pretty awesome if you ask me.
